{"id":70149,"date":"2016-05-03T11:00:11","date_gmt":"2016-05-03T11:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=b885a7abc4c068e6d408843bba2e061d"},"modified":"2016-05-03T11:00:11","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T11:00:11","slug":"news-story-cma-refers-energy-trading-software-merger-for-in-depth-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=70149","title":{"rendered":"News story: CMA refers energy trading software merger for in-depth investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/energy-trading-software-merger-faces-in-depth-investigation\">Last week<\/a>, the Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) said that it would refer the merger for an in-depth investigation unless Intercontinental Exchange (<abbr title=\"Intercontinental Exchange\">ICE<\/abbr>) offered acceptable undertakings to address the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s competition concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> is concerned that <abbr title=\"Intercontinental Exchange\">ICE<\/abbr> could use its ownership of Trayport\u2019s software to raise prices and\/or reduce the quality of its service to rival exchanges, brokers and clearinghouses in order to divert its rivals\u2019 trades to <abbr title=\"Intercontinental Exchange\">ICE<\/abbr>\u2019s exchange and clearinghouse and\/or to protect its market position from increased competition.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Intercontinental Exchange\">ICE<\/abbr> has not offered any undertakings in lieu and the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> will therefore now refer the merger.<\/p>\n<p>A decision on the merger will be made by a group of independent panel members supported by a case team of <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> staff.
