{"id":70485,"date":"2016-05-13T07:57:57","date_gmt":"2016-05-13T07:57:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=c39750b809ff34ec3cc22e5e30e10629"},"modified":"2016-05-13T07:57:57","modified_gmt":"2016-05-13T07:57:57","slug":"news-story-treatments-for-babesiosis-in-dogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=70485","title":{"rendered":"News story: Treatments for babesiosis in dogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The VMD is aware of recent reports of babesiosis in dogs and the potential concerns about the availability of treatments.<\/p>\n<p>At present, there is no Veterinary Medicinal Product (<abbr title=\"Veterinary Medicinal Product\">VMP<\/abbr>) authorised in the UK for the treatment of babesiosis in dogs; therefore, treatments must be prescribed in accordance with the provisions made by the cascade.  This may require use of a <abbr title=\"Veterinary Medicinal Product\">VMP<\/abbr> authorised for babesiosis treatment in a different species or, if necessary, importation of an EU authorised treatment for babesiosis in dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Under the provisions of the cascade, vets may choose to use Imizol 85 mg\/ml Solution for Injection (active substance imidocarb), by Intervet, which is authorised in the UK for the treatment and prevention of bovine babesiosis (Babesia divergens).  If, based on the vets\u2019 professional judgment, this treatment is not suitable for a particular patient, then an alternative <abbr title=\"Veterinary Medicinal Product\">VMP<\/abbr> can be imported instead.<\/p>\n<p>Products exist across the EU which vets may apply to import through the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vmd.defra.gov.uk\/sis\/default.aspx\">special import scheme<\/a>.
