Baroness Anelay has announced in Parliament the update of the UK\u2019s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. This document, which is produced jointly by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Business Innovation and Skills Department, reflects the broad range of activity and engagement which takes place across a large number of government departments, all of whom were involved in its development.
\nThis update sees the UK reaffirm its commitment to the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles (UNGP) on Business and Human Rights. As part of this, the Foreign Office focuses on encouraging other governments to take similar steps to implement the UNGPs, creating a predictable and fair environment for UK businesses, wherever they operate. The recently published Human Rights report set out our work and commitments in this area, and the consultation process carried out during 2015.

I am pleased that we have today published our updated National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. The Plan rightly acknowledges the duty of Government but also sets out our expectation that UK businesses will act responsibly and in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles, wherever they operate.<\/p>\n

Human Rights are at the heart of both our diplomats\u2019 and Ministers\u2019 work and this updated National Action Plan clearly restates our conviction that the promotion of business and respect for human rights go hand in hand.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
