{"id":70810,"date":"2016-05-22T23:15:04","date_gmt":"2016-05-22T23:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=e1a4bbb5a780c2ccb0988bee28f2ffc3"},"modified":"2016-05-22T23:15:04","modified_gmt":"2016-05-22T23:15:04","slug":"press-release-90-million-boost-for-the-great-british-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=70810","title":{"rendered":"Press release: \u00a390 million boost for the Great British Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Businesses and communities across the Great British Coast could be sailing towards a cash windfall, ministers announced today (23 May 2016).<\/p>\n<p>Creative coastal entrepreneurs can from today bid for a share of \u00a390 million government funding available UK-wide over the next 4 years to support their plans to reel in jobs and revitalise our much-loved seaside areas.<\/p>\n<p>This latest cash boost for coastal communities is all part of the government\u2019s efforts to rebalance the economy and help all areas of the country thrive.<\/p>\n<p>Communities Secretary Greg Clark said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our Great British Coast has enormous economic potential and we are determined to see it thrive all year round.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why today we\u2019re investing \u00a390 million in exciting new business ideas across our much-loved seaside areas \u2013 bringing not just a wave of enthusiasm but also creating thousands of good new jobs too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">And with grants of up to \u00a34 million each available, I\u2019d urge our coastal entrepreneurs and communities to get involved.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Communities Minister Mark Francois said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Over the past few years we\u2019ve seen a sea-change in investment across our Great British Coast \u2013 with today\u2019s \u00a390 million building on the \u00a3120 million we\u2019ve already pumped in.<\/p>\n<p>This money is all about generating jobs and boosting businesses, so if you\u2019ve got a good idea we want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We\u2019re rightly proud of our country\u2019s seaside past but this new money means that we can also look forward to its bright future.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"buoyed-up-business\">Buoyed up business<\/h2>\n<p>Since 2012, the government has invested over \u00a3120 million in seaside areas through a dedicated Coastal Communities Fund.<\/p>\n<p>From Bognor Regis to Bute and from Redcar to Rhyl, more than 200 businesses and regeneration projects have benefitted. These projects \u2013 everything from resurrecting railway lines to starting up sailing centres \u2013 are predicted to safeguard or create up to 18,000 new jobs.<\/p>\n<p>And analysis has shown this has been money well spent with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/investment-in-great-british-coast-is-money-well-spent\">every \u00a31 invested having the potential to create an up to \u00a38 boost<\/a> to our coastal economies.<\/p>\n<p>Now a further \u00a390 million is available over the next 4 years to help boost tourism, create jobs and provide quality training for local people.<\/p>\n<p>Grants of between \u00a350,000 and \u00a34 million are available to a range of organisations including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>coastal community teams<\/li>\n<li>charities<\/li>\n<li>councils<\/li>\n<li>development agencies<\/li>\n<li>local enterprise partnerships<\/li>\n<li>private sector companies<\/li>\n<li>social enterprises<\/li>\n<li>voluntary and community sector organisations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Previous projects to benefit from the Coastal Communities Fund include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blackpool City council, awarded more than \u00a31.9 million to radically transform its iconic illuminations, with the potential to create up to 500 new jobs in the local area<\/li>\n<li>The Three Harbours Association awarded more than \u00a3500,000 to renovate a dilapidated boat store on Cullen Harbour and turn it into a boating, kayaking sailing and diving school creating jobs and enticing tourists to the area<\/li>\n<li>The National Coastal Tourism Academy, in Bournemouth, awarded \u00a32 million to set up a Coastal Activity Park and train hundreds of coastal businesses across the country to become experts in attracting tourists<\/li>\n<li>Hastings borough council, awarded \u00a3500,000 to improve the seafront and visitor attractions and amenities in Hastings, including bikes to hire, improved signage, information walks and trails and landscaping creating 260 jobs<\/li>\n<li>Scarborough\u2019s historic market awarded \u00a32.7 million to refurbish the market, create a hub for year round employment, an outlet for 30 new business entrepreneurs and a showcase for local food produce<\/li>\n<li>The Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre in Pwllheli, awarded \u00a3120,000 to create a venue which provides the beating heart of Welsh sailing and bring an extra 10,000 visitors in a year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"further-information\">Further information<\/h2>\n<p>The Coastal Communities Fund supports projects that will directly or indirectly create new jobs or safeguard existing jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biglotteryfund.org.uk\/ccf\">Coastal Communities Fund<\/a> is financed by the government through the funding equivalent of 50% of the revenues earned from the Crown Estate\u2019s marine activities in England and the devolved administrations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>Bids for the latest round in England will close on 30 June 2016.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland applicants should prepare bids now for when their applications will open in early July.<\/p>\n<p>Last year 118 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/coastal-community-teams-to-take-control-of-seaside-regeneration\">Coastal Community Teams<\/a> were set up to bring together local business, councils and individuals together to coordinate regeneration in their area. They will play a key role in shaping the next wave of successful Coastal Communities Fund bids.<\/p>\n<p>On top of today\u2019s funding, over the past year more than \u00a33.7 million has also been provided to help restore local seaside landmarks to their former glory through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/coastal-revival-fund-bidding-prospectus-and-application-form\">Coastal Revival Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside these dedicated funds more than \u00a3700 million has been invested into coastal areas through growth deals.
