{"id":71812,"date":"2016-06-30T10:02:06","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T10:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=eebfc38d252491ff5f780207e544fed2"},"modified":"2016-06-30T10:02:06","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T10:02:06","slug":"press-release-online-reviews-guidelines-mark-end-of-cmas-icpen-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=71812","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Online reviews guidelines mark end of CMA\u2019s ICPEN presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (<abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr>), a network of consumer protection authorities from nearly 60 countries, has today published 3 sets of guidelines on online reviews and endorsements for <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icpen.org\/files\/icpenDownloads\/ICPEN___ORE___Guide_1___Guidelines_for_Review_Administrators___JUN_2016_FNL_.pdf\">review administrators<\/a>, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icpen.org\/files\/icpenDownloads\/ICPEN___ORE___Guide_2___Guidelines_for_Traders_and_Marketers___JUN_2016_FNL.pdf\">traders and marketers<\/a>, and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icpen.org\/files\/icpenDownloads\/ICPEN___ORE___Guide_3___Guidelines_for_Digital_Influencers___JUN_2016_FNL.pdf\">digital influencers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers are increasingly using opinions in online reviews, articles and blogs to help them decide where to go on holiday, which restaurants to visit, or which products or services to buy. Consumer protection agencies across the world have been taking action to help build trust in these valuable tools and prevent the use of misleading or fake reviews and endorsements.<\/p>\n<p>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/cma-icpen-presidency-report-2015-to-2016\/uk-presidency-of-icpen-report-1-july-2015-to-30-june-2016\">Competition and Markets Authority\u2019s (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) 2015 to 2016 presidency<\/a>, <abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr> members have come together to produce a common set of principles for the sector. These guidelines provide simple dos and don\u2019ts for review sites, traders and marketing businesses, and digital influencers, such as bloggers and vloggers. The guidelines will help traders and businesses know which practices to adopt and which to avoid so that consumers get the full picture and can trust that the opinions they read are genuine and unbiased.<\/p>\n<p>As the volume of shopping online and across borders grows and trade becomes increasingly international, it is important that consumer protection enforcers around the world work together to ensure that businesses, wherever they are based, deal with consumers fairly.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s year-long presidency of <abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr>, which draws to a close today, has brought enforcers together to tackle problems faced by consumers across the globe by sharing information and taking common actions. The new guidelines are just one example of the work carried out by <abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr> under the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> has published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/cma-icpen-presidency-report-2015-to-2016\/uk-presidency-of-icpen-report-1-july-2015-to-30-june-2016\">a report<\/a>, which gives more details about the work delivered by <abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr> and its members during the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s year as president. The presidency passes to the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, Germany, on 1 July 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Nisha Arora, <abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr> President and <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> Senior Director, Consumer, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Consumers are increasingly shopping in an international marketplace, whether shopping online or travelling or buying abroad. Consumers in different countries often face common problems. They need to know that they can trust the businesses with which they are dealing, wherever they are based.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It\u2019s more important than ever that consumer protection agencies work together to tackle common problems and ensure that businesses, wherever they are based, deal with consumers fairly. The guidelines on online reviews and endorsements that we have published today send a common message from consumer agencies across the world to businesses, wherever they are located. The presidency passes to the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection on 1 July 2016.<\/li>\n<li>\n<abbr title=\"International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network\">ICPEN<\/abbr> is an informal network of consumer protection law enforcement authorities representing over 60 global economies.
