But not everyone passes their theory test first time. The pass rate for car drivers in 2015 to 2016 was 49.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Questions on these topics are the most incorrectly answered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>road and traffic signs<\/li>\n<li>safety margins<\/li>\n<li>rules of the road<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other topics include attitude, safety and your vehicle, and documents.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/take-practice-theory-test\">Take a free practice theory test<\/a> to see if you can pass.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"keeping-costs-down-for-motorists\">Keeping costs down for motorists<\/h2>\n<p>The government is committed to keeping the cost of driving down for motorists. It\u2019s reduced the cost of the theory test by 25%.<\/p>\n<p>Since October 2014 this has saved learner drivers around \u00a311.6 million. It\u2019s expected to save \u00a3100 million over the next 9 years.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr> is also planning to open 28 extra theory test centres across Great Britain. The details of these sites will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"avoid-extra-charges-when-booking-your-test\">Avoid extra charges when booking your test<\/h3>\n<p>You can also save money by making sure you use the official theory test booking service at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/booktheorytest\">www.gov.uk\/booktheorytest<\/a>. Other websites might charge extra fees.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"discounted-official-books-and-software\">Discounted official books and software<\/h3>\n<p><abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr>\u2019s official publisher, TSO, is running 2 offers between 1 July and 15 July 2016. They are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a 20% discount across the range of theory test books and software<\/li>\n<li>rolling back the price to the same as the very first theory test product, so the theory test for car drivers book, DVD-ROM and hazard perception DVD are available at \u00a39.99 each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.safedrivingforlife.info\/shop\">Buy the theory test books and software<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"how-the-theory-test-developed\">How the theory test developed<\/h2>\n<p>The theory test was introduced as a written part of the driving test process, replacing questions asked by the driving examiner during the driving test.<\/p>\n<p>It later became a computer-based test, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/theory-test\/hazard-perception-test\">hazard perception test<\/a> introduced to test candidates\u2019 awareness of developing hazards.<\/p>\n<p>Since its introduction, the hazard perception test has been shown to reduce non-low-speed accidents by an estimated 11% for novice drivers in their first year of driving.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"modernising-hazard-perception-clips\">Modernising hazard perception clips<\/h3>\n<p>The filmed video clips were replaced with high-quality computer generated imagery (<abbr title=\"computer-generated imagery\">CGI<\/abbr>) in January 2015. These contain more modern vehicles, roads, and surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>In the future, <abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr> wants to introduce <abbr title=\"computer-generated imagery\">CGI<\/abbr> clips that show situations with vulnerable road users, like children, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
