{"id":72270,"date":"2016-07-13T09:41:15","date_gmt":"2016-07-13T09:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=63a5a6bcd607f1dca1921a555a9056b6"},"modified":"2016-07-13T09:41:15","modified_gmt":"2016-07-13T09:41:15","slug":"news-story-agri-tech-innovation-in-developing-countries-apply-for-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=72270","title":{"rendered":"News story: Agri-tech innovation in developing countries: apply for funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Department for International Development (DFID) has up to \u00a34 million to fund round 6 of the Agri-Tech Catalyst.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the competition is to increase the pace and scale of uptake of agricultural innovation by farmers in developing countries and to achieve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a sustained reduction of poverty and hunger for smallholder farmers<\/li>\n<li>a sustainable intensification in developing country agriculture<\/li>\n<li>improvements in human health and diversity in diets and nutrition<\/li>\n<li>a positive impact on rural income and food security<\/li>\n<li>opportunities for trade in agricultural products<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Agricultural science and technology is one of the world\u2019s fastest growing and exciting markets. The global challenges that are driving this rapid growth include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a rising population<\/li>\n<li>climate change<\/li>\n<li>rapid development of emerging economies with western lifestyle aspirations<\/li>\n<li>growing geopolitical instability around shortages of land, water and energy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/uk-agricultural-technologies-strategy\">UK Strategy for Agricultural Technologies<\/a> is helping the UK respond to these challenges.
