{"id":72817,"date":"2016-07-28T10:30:04","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T10:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=109c12f3e70752b2add75765c499c62f"},"modified":"2016-07-28T10:30:04","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T10:30:04","slug":"press-release-social-security-advisory-committee-announces-membership-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=72817","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Social Security Advisory Committee announces membership changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Minister for Welfare Reform, Lord Freud, has confirmed 5 new appointments to the Social Security Advisory Committee (<abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Carl Emmerson<\/li>\n<li>Dominic Morris<\/li>\n<li>Charlotte Pickles<\/li>\n<li>Liz Sayce<\/li>\n<li>Victoria Todd<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Existing committee member, Chris Goulden, has also been appointed for a second term.<\/p>\n<p>The appointments were made following open competition. The new members will start their 5-year terms on 1 August 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Freud said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am delighted to welcome the 5 new members to the Social Security Advisory Committee, and to welcome Chris Goulden back for a second term. They will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience which will enrich further the advice that the committee provides to the ministerial team at the Department for Work and Pensions (<abbr title=\"Department for Work and Pensions\">DWP<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul Gray, <abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr> chair, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>These appointments bring a wide-range of expertise and skills to the committee, and I am looking forward to working with them on a range of issues that affect some of the most vulnerable people in our society.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">At the same time we are losing a number of valued and highly-respected colleagues as their terms expire.  I would like to place on record my thanks to John Andrews, Adele Baumgardt, John Ditch, Matthew Oakley and Nicola Smith for their excellent contributions to our work over recent years.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"about-the-committee\">About the committee<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/social-security-advisory-committee\">Social Security Advisory Committee<\/a> is an independent statutory body established in 1980. It provides advice to the Secretary of State on proposals for the amendment of secondary legislation and on general social security matters as required.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/\">Commissioner for Public Appointments<\/a> regulates all appointments made by the Secretary of State to <abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr>. All such appointments are made in accordance with the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/the-code-of-practice\/\">Code of Practice<\/a> published by the commissioner. The code is based on 3 core principles \u2013 merit, openness and fairness.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Social Security Advisory Committee\">SSAC<\/abbr> members receive a daily fee of \u00a3256.80, for a time commitment of 2 to 3 days a month.
