{"id":73242,"date":"2016-08-15T11:00:16","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T11:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5a54198b3860786d5c1408d232245446"},"modified":"2016-08-15T11:00:16","modified_gmt":"2016-08-15T11:00:16","slug":"news-story-automatic-verification-and-fusion-of-open-source-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=73242","title":{"rendered":"News story: Automatic verification and fusion of open-source intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cubicatechnology.co.uk\/\">Cubica Technology<\/a> was funded by the Centre for Defence Enterprise (<abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr>) to develop a way to automatically verify the trustworthiness of a range of structured and unstructured open-source intelligence (<abbr title=\"open-source intelligence\">OSINT<\/abbr>) data sources, producing more accurate situational awareness.<\/p>\n<p>The Surrey-based company integrated algorithms into a modular and flexible platform to take in, process and fuse <abbr title=\"open-source intelligence\">OSINT<\/abbr> data for risk-based decision making support. They used a variety of open-source data, including social media, news and crowdsourced data to show how it could help improve decision making.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hoped the applications will allow for large amount of data to be processed and automatically assessed, avoiding human bias and error.<\/p>\n<p>In future, Cubica Technology plans to demonstrate how it can work on a larger, more representative scale, event by untrained users.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Scott Page, Managing Director, Cubica Technology says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The <abbr title=\"Centre for Defence Enterprise\">CDE<\/abbr> funding has allowed us to demonstrate how technology we\u2019ve developed for sensor-based applications can be used for processing open source intelligence data; we\u2019ve had great support in understanding how it can benefit a range of user communities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Founded in 2013 and based in Woking, Surrey, Cubica Technology is an <abbr title=\"small and medium sized enterprise\">SME<\/abbr> with 9 employees that develops state of the art processing algorithms and software and specialises in image processing, machine learning and data fusion.
