{"id":73325,"date":"2016-08-18T08:59:23","date_gmt":"2016-08-18T08:59:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=54888ff50eef8c6b754ce1ba4157b639"},"modified":"2016-08-18T08:59:23","modified_gmt":"2016-08-18T08:59:23","slug":"news-story-study-shows-oxford-to-cambridge-expressway-improvements-could-boost-the-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=73325","title":{"rendered":"News story: Study shows Oxford to Cambridge Expressway improvements could boost the economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A new study setting out the case to improve connections between Oxford, Milton Keynes and Cambridge was published by the Department for Transport today, 18 August 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/oxford-to-cambridge-expressway-strategic-study-interim-report\">Oxford to Cambridge expressway strategic study<\/a> was launched by the government in autumn 2015, one of a number of studies aimed at addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the road network in the UK.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Oxford to Cambridge map.\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/55425\/960-640-oxford-to-cambridge-map.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Today\u2019s report has found that a new link will improve journey times, up to 30 minutes along the length of the route, and support economic growth in the towns and cities on the Expressway.<\/p>\n<p>The new road would benefit commuters and businesses in Cambridge, Oxford and Milton Keynes \u2013 some of the fastest growing areas in the UK &#8211; and have a wider positive impact on Britain\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister John Hayes said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I want people up and down Britain to benefit from quicker, more reliable journeys.<\/p>\n<p>Our cities and towns are the lifeblood of our economy and they, as well as our rural communities, need strong connections to thrive.<\/p>\n<p>We are already spending \u00a315 billion on the biggest upgrade to the road network for generations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This next phase is aimed at creating more vital links, creating jobs and opportunities and helping hardworking families across the country feel the benefits of our investment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The improved network could also benefit local communities by improving access to amenities, cutting congestion in built up areas and enabling the delivery of new homes.<\/p>\n<p>The study is part of the government\u2019s next phase of road improvements, which will get underway from 2020. The current Road Investment Strategy period covers 2015 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Further proposals on the route of the expressway will now be developed.<\/p>\n<p>Two further reports \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/trans-pennine-tunnel-strategic-study-updated-interim-report\">Trans-Pennine tunnel<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/a1-east-of-england-strategic-study-interim-report\">A1 east of England<\/a> \u2013 are also published today.
