{"id":73628,"date":"2016-08-30T09:31:50","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T09:31:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=636dfc69f308e8a77c82608151739ace"},"modified":"2016-08-30T09:31:50","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T09:31:50","slug":"news-story-merger-of-toy-suppliers-referred-for-in-depth-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=73628","title":{"rendered":"News story: Merger of toy suppliers referred for in-depth investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>On 18 August, the Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/merger-of-toy-suppliers-could-face-in-depth-investigation\">announced that it would refer the merger<\/a> for an in-depth investigation unless VTech offered acceptable undertakings to address the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s competition concerns regarding the supply of toddler electronic learning toys, child laptops\/tablets and child electronic reading systems in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> gave VTech until 25 August to offer proposals to address the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s competition concerns in lieu of a reference. As VTech has not offered any undertakings, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> will therefore now refer the merger.<\/p>\n<p>A decision on the merger will be made by a group of independent panel members supported by a case team of <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> staff.
