{"id":73879,"date":"2016-09-07T08:53:22","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T08:53:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=8a8fa618fa8b8b57e64fd6d283817dea"},"modified":"2016-09-07T08:53:22","modified_gmt":"2016-09-07T08:53:22","slug":"press-release-highways-england-team-celebrate-severn-bridges-50th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=73879","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Highways England team celebrate Severn Bridge\u2019s 50th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Highways England is responsible for maintenance and traffic management of the M48 bridge, and to mark this week\u2019s 50th anniversary of the original Severn Crossing, a group of staff joined up to 2,500 runners in the third annual Severn Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday, 28 August.<\/p>\n<p>The 13 runners teamed up from Highways England\u2019s South West offices at Temple Quay House in Bristol, The Cube in Birmingham, and Ash House in Exeter, and as well as marking the anniversary of the bridge \u2013 which falls on Thursday, 8 September \u2013 they also raised money for Winston\u2019s Wish, St David\u2019s Hospice Care and the Great North Air Ambulance Service in the process.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Highways England team runners\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/56079\/DSC_0359.png\"><\/div><figcaption>Highways England team runners gather before the half marathon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The half-marathon involved two crossings of the bridge and one of the team, Steve Clarke, from the Cube, really showed his paces by completing the course in a time of 1hr 24mins 7secs, to finish first in the male veteran 45 category and 21st overall.<\/p>\n<p>Jennie Boyd, another runner and a Bristol-based team leader within the Intelligent Transport Systems group, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For me, it was my first time in the Severn Bridge run \u2013 it\u2019s a hilly half-marathon, but very enjoyable and everyone from the team completed it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">As Highways England has been involved for so many years with the historic M48 Severn Bridge we thought this was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the connection and proudly represent the company \u2013 and I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll be involved again next year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A TV documentary will also be screened this week to mark the anniversary of the famous West Country landmark.<\/p>\n<p>The Severn Bridge at 50: A High Wire Act features footage from the half-marathon and will be shown tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7.30pm on BBC1 Wales and on Friday, again at 7.30pm, on BBC1 West.
