Almost a century later his bravery and sacrifice to his country was honoured during a rededication service earlier today (30 September) at Belgian Battery Corner Commonwealth War Graves Commission (<abbr title=\"Commonwealth War Graves Commission\">CWGC<\/abbr>) Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Warrant Officer Class 2 Richard Edwards of The Princess of Wales\u2019s Royal Regiment lays a wreath - Crown Copyright - All rights reserved\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/56848\/Photo_1.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Warrant Officer Class 2 Richard Edwards of The Princess of Wales\u2019s Royal Regiment lays a wreath &#8211; Crown Copyright &#8211; All rights reserved<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The service, organised by the MOD\u2019s Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre (<abbr title=\"Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre\">JCCC<\/abbr>), part of Defence Business Services was delivered by the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment Chaplain The Reverend Roy Burley.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Reverend Roy Burley leads the service - Crown Copyright - All rights reserved\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/56849\/Photo_3.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Reverend Roy Burley leads the service &#8211; Crown Copyright &#8211; All rights reserved<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><abbr title=\"Company Serjeant Major\">CSM<\/abbr> Gale was born on 1 September 1877 in Hammersmith, Middlesex. He enlisted on 28 July 1915 and after spending 3 years and 63 days serving in the Great War, he was killed on 28 September 1918 aged 41, just 6 weeks before it ended. Andrew was married to Olivia and they had five children Lily, David, Frederick, William and Beatrice.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst the family members in attendance was <abbr title=\"Company Serjeant Major\">CSM<\/abbr> Gale\u2019s great grandson Gary Boxall. The service was very moving and we were very honoured to be present to represent our family. We are very grateful to the <abbr title=\"Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre\">JCCC<\/abbr> for organising the service and the <abbr title=\"Commonwealth War Graves Commission\">CWGC<\/abbr> for providing the headstone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"(left to right): CSM Gale\u2019s great grandson Gary Boxall and his son Guy Boxall stand side by side the Belgium flag bearers and two representing the Royal British Legion - Crown Copyright - All rights reserved\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/56851\/Photo_5.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>(left to right): <abbr title=\"Company Serjeant Major\">CSM<\/abbr> Gale\u2019s great grandson Gary Boxall and his son Guy Boxall stand side by side the Belgium flag bearers and two representing the Royal British Legion &#8211; Crown Copyright &#8211; All rights reserved<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Reverend Roy Burley, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment Chaplain who conducted the service said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">In recent years families have been able to say a proper \u201cgoodbye\u201d to their loved ones who have been killed on military operations, and it is just as important that today, the family of <abbr title=\"Company Serjeant Major\">CSM<\/abbr> Andrew Gale are able, after nearly a century, to finally know where his remains are buried.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sue Raftree, from the <abbr title=\"Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre\">JCCC<\/abbr> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It is a privilege to be involved in this case to find the family of Andrew and organise the rededication service in Belgium.
