{"id":74735,"date":"2016-10-05T10:32:22","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T10:32:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=e29db042d8c41ba28ecf1a9b095efe7e"},"modified":"2016-10-05T10:32:22","modified_gmt":"2016-10-05T10:32:22","slug":"news-story-rising-star-leading-the-uks-fusion-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=74735","title":{"rendered":"News story: Rising star leading the UK&#8217;s fusion research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>At 34 years old, Professor Ian Chapman is one of the youngest CEOs of a major research centre and already has over 110 papers to his name.<\/p>\n<p>His first working day as CEO started with a presentation to UKAEA\u2019s external advisory board, chaired by Jerome Pamela, former Director at Agence ITER France.<\/p>\n<p>Ian\u2019s long-term focus is crystal clear, as outlined at presentations to UKAEA staff last Friday:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We must deliver fusion; it will be an essential part of the portfolio of energy sources that the world will need as the global population continues to expand and develop. Delivering fusion is undoubtedly a big challenge, but one that mankind must overcome, and the work we are doing at Culham is at the international forefront of tackling this challenge.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>More information on UKAEA\u2019s mission and corporate goals can be found in a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/the-future-is-bright\">booklet.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Professor Steve Cowley has departed to become President of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
