{"id":74765,"date":"2016-10-06T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-06T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f74f29e8bed560165266247ae601ea66"},"modified":"2016-10-06T10:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-10-06T10:00:00","slug":"press-release-university-and-business-ip-cooperation-to-boost-uk-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=74765","title":{"rendered":"Press release: University and Business IP cooperation to boost UK innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Thursday 6th October 2016 (Edinburgh): Baroness Neville-Rolfe Minster for Intellectual Property today launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/university-and-business-collaboration-agreements-lambert-toolkit\">Lambert 2<\/a> &#8211; a vital negotiation toolkit aiming to bolster collaboration between universities and businesses across the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The updated negotiation toolkit includes a set of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>decision guides to identify which agreement you could use for your circumstances<\/li>\n<li>model agreements to commence your negotiations<\/li>\n<li>11 model (one to one and multi-party) agreements<\/li>\n<li>additional agreements for when additional parties join your projects; and<\/li>\n<li>substantial guidance notes to take parties through the process of identifying and using the model agreements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lambert 2, developed by the UK Intellectual Property Office (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>), builds upon the successful \u2018Lambert Toolkit\u2019 which has streamlined knowledge-exchange between the worlds of higher education and business since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>During the Lambert era collaborative research has increased by 9.9 per cent to \u00a31.26bn and income generated as a direct result of intellectual property has increased by 18.5 per cent to \u00a3155.4million.<\/p>\n<p>Baroness Neville-Rolfe, Minister of State for Energy and Intellectual Property said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Innovation and creativity are vital to the UK economy. Marrying the <abbr title=\"Research and Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr> expertise of universities and the entrepreneurial excellence of UK business will help cement the UK\u2019s position as an <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> world-leader.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This government is committed to doing everything it can to help boost collaboration between business and universities. Lambert 2 fosters an environment of trust between research partners by helping protect parties to protect their hard-earned <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> rights. Only this week the Chancellor announced a \u00a3120m fund to incentivise research collaboration in tech transfer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A number of successful joint <abbr title=\"Research and Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr> projects have been completed under Lambert. The University of South Wales used the Lambert toolkit to collaborate with a multinational organisation allowing them to produce a novel tuneable laser for high precision metrology.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> is exporting the Lambert concept across the world. It is already in use in China, India, and South Korea. A Brazilian version of the Lambert toolkit to facilitate and promote <abbr title=\"Research and Development\">R&amp;D<\/abbr> and tech transfer collaboration is underway and there are plans for Lambert to be introduced in Vietnam and South Africa are under consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Universities UK, added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The launch of the Lambert Toolkit was an important step forward in reducing barriers to university-industry research partnerships. 11 years on, universities\u2019 engagement in collaborative research with industry is stronger than ever, and the Lambert Toolkit remains a valued reference for simplifying the negotiation of collaboration agreements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We welcome this update as an opportunity to ensure the Toolkit addresses evolving challenges in this area and incorporates lessons learned from its implementation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Malcolm Skingle, Director of Academic Liaison, at GSK said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Collaboration between businesses and universities is extremely valuable.
