{"id":75122,"date":"2016-10-18T10:38:34","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T10:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fdf89609ea99eee84459f06031756c59"},"modified":"2016-10-18T10:38:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T10:38:34","slug":"news-story-views-sought-on-the-performance-of-the-groceries-code-adjudicator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=75122","title":{"rendered":"News story: Views sought on the performance of the Groceries Code Adjudicator"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The performance of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/groceries-code-adjudicator\">Groceries Code Adjudicator<\/a> (<abbr title=\"Groceries Code Adjudicator\">GCA<\/abbr>) will be examined in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/groceries-code-adjudicator-statutory-review\">statutory review<\/a> launched today by Business Minister Margot James.<\/p>\n<p>The Groceries Code covers the 10 largest UK supermarkets and is designed to help control practices that have a negative impact on suppliers and stifle supply chain innovation. The <abbr title=\"Groceries Code Adjudicator\">GCA<\/abbr> is the independent body that oversees compliance with the code.<\/p>\n<p>Since the appointment of Christine Tacon <abbr title=\"Commander of the Order of the British Empire\">CBE<\/abbr> as <abbr title=\"Groceries Code Adjudicator\">GCA<\/abbr> in 2013 there has been significant progress on issues covered by the Groceries Code. A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/2016-annual-conference-speaker-presentations\">YouGov survey<\/a> showed an 8% fall in code-related issues <abbr title=\"refers to the 10 supermarkets covered by the code\">reported by supermarket suppliers<\/abbr> from 2015, and a 17% decrease compared to 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the statutory review, government will also launch a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/groceries-code-adjudicator-extending-its-remit\">call for evidence<\/a> to explore the case for extending the remit of the <abbr title=\"Groceries Code Adjudicator\">GCA<\/abbr>, to include indirect suppliers to supermarkets.<\/p>\n<p>Business Minister Margot James said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is important that suppliers of all sizes get a fair deal when working with supermarkets. The Groceries Code Adjudicator is making a significant impact, with suppliers reporting that nine out of the 10 retailers covered have improved their compliance with the Code over the past year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are also looking at evidence for extending the <abbr title=\"Groceries Code Adjudicator\">GCA<\/abbr>\u2019s remit in recognition of concerns raised by other suppliers in the grocery sector \u2013 particularly primary producers and farmers \u2013 who are not covered by the Code.
