{"id":75166,"date":"2016-10-19T12:00:03","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T12:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=bad1c8729f1b8ea799cd5b39c0a625d9"},"modified":"2016-10-19T12:00:03","modified_gmt":"2016-10-19T12:00:03","slug":"press-release-cma-board-visits-bristol-and-cardiff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=75166","title":{"rendered":"Press release: CMA board visits Bristol and Cardiff"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Board members will take part in roundtable discussions with business leaders and representative groups in Bristol on 19 October, before a reception in Cardiff attended by Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates, with the board meeting in the city the following day.<\/p>\n<p>The roundtable discussions will include subjects such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Which local markets have issues that the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> may be interested in?<\/li>\n<li>Are there threats to effective competition in the South West region?<\/li>\n<li>How can the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On its visits the board will be able to discuss subjects including the impact of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/next-step-towards-300m-saving-for-prepayment-energy-customers\">energy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/cma-paves-the-way-for-open-banking-revolution\">retail banking<\/a> market investigations, which produced their final reports in June and August, and the progress of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/legal-services-market-study\">legal services<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/cma-launches-study-into-digital-comparison-tools\">digital comparison tools<\/a> market studies.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> will also be encouraging greater awareness of competition and consumer law \u2013 over the past month it has written to law firms in both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/south-west-lawyers-asked-to-help-competition-law-awareness\">South West<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/welsh-lawyers-asked-to-help-competition-law-awareness\">Wales<\/a> asking them to help promote new easy-to-understand videos and guides to their small business clients.<\/p>\n<p>David Currie, <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> Chairman, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is important that markets work well for people and businesses right across the UK, and that vigorous competition helps fuel economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>I am very much looking forward to hearing the views of South West business leaders about the opportunities and risks they see and in what ways the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> can help them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">And I am pleased that the board is again able to meet in Cardiff and listen closely to the views of Welsh consumer groups, business representatives, regulators, political leaders, and others.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"notes-for-editors\">Notes for editors<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> is the UK\u2019s primary competition and consumer authority.
