A consultation has been launched today on exemptions to reforms which limit the child elements in Child Tax Credit and Universal Credit to a maximum of 2 children from April 2017.<\/p>\n

The change is part of reforms designed to make the benefits system fairer \u2013 and ensure people on benefits have the same choices as those supporting themselves solely through work.<\/p>\n

To ensure that support continues to go to those who need it, the government has been clear that there will be exemptions in some circumstances.<\/p>\n

The consultation will seek views and evidence on how these exemptions can best be applied.<\/p>\n

The consultation closes on 27 November 2016.<\/p>\n
