{"id":75464,"date":"2016-10-26T18:48:28","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T18:48:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=43db79401881e5ddeb8edbb55d70071e"},"modified":"2016-10-26T18:48:28","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T18:48:28","slug":"news-story-lord-ahmad-outines-benefits-of-heathrow-expansion-to-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=75464","title":{"rendered":"News story: Lord Ahmad outines benefits of Heathrow expansion to Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Heathrow\u2019s north-west runway is government\u2019s preferred choice to deliver airport expansion<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>980,000 extra passengers could fly from Scotland to Heathrow in 2040<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>more flights, better connections and cheaper fares for passengers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>safeguarded routes from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen to Heathrow and new route to Prestwick<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>A new runway at Heathrow would boost jobs across the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr>, lead to more flights and better connections, and link Scottish businesses to expanding global markets, Aviation Minister Lord Ahmad said at Glasgow Airport today (26 October 2016).<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s preferred location for airport expansion was announced yesterday and will be taken forward in the form of a draft National policy statement for consultation in the new year.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Ahmad discussed the benefits of Heathrow expansion to the Scottish economy with Glasgow Airport\u2019s Chief Executive Amanda McMillan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lord Ahmad at Glasgow Airport\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/57562\/LA_.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>More flights and new routes would link Scotland to new places and improve existing connections around the world and show the whole of the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> is open for business.<\/p>\n<p>A new link between Heathrow and Prestwick is expected by 2030, and expansion would help to protect the airport\u2019s current services to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen.<\/p>\n<p>The third runway could mean more direct flights between Heathrow and Scotland, leading to increased competition and lower fares.<\/p>\n<p>Lord Ahmad said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Heathrow expansion is not just for London and the south of England, it would bring great benefits to the whole of the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> and shows we are open for business.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Expansion would open capacity, introduce new routes and more flights, which would provide Scotland with new opportunities \u2013 both for business and travellers.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Freight exports would also increase at Heathrow \u2013 offering more options for Scottish companies.
