{"id":75844,"date":"2016-11-08T12:00:15","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T12:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=29608105b11e5f9e35a4fec3a137c5b1"},"modified":"2016-11-08T12:00:15","modified_gmt":"2016-11-08T12:00:15","slug":"news-story-vaccines-for-global-epidemics-apply-for-business-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=75844","title":{"rendered":"News story: Vaccines for global epidemics: apply for business contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-of-health\">Department of Health<\/a> is to invest up to \u00a335 million in projects to develop vaccines for 12 diseases with the potential to cause epidemics in low and  middle-income countries.<\/p>\n<p>Vaccines prevent millions of deaths worldwide every year. However, there is a strong need to develop new vaccines and develop the effectiveness of existing ones.<\/p>\n<p>The 12 diseases identified as a priority by the UK Vaccine Network are chikungunya, Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever, ebola, hantavirus, lassa fever, Marburg virus, Middle East respiratory syndrome, nipah, plague, Q fever, Rift Valley fever, and zika.<\/p>\n<p>Projects that could be supported include ones that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>apply emerging or existing technologies in other areas of vaccinology<\/li>\n<li>test vaccine platforms in humans to improve existing strategies<\/li>\n<li>test proven animal vaccines to support use in humans<\/li>\n<li>develop vaccines for use in animal populations to prevent spread to humans<\/li>\n<li>develop improved vaccine delivery<\/li>\n<li>develop diagnostics that demonstrate safety<\/li>\n<li>develop vaccines that protect against multiple strains of a pathogen or multiple pathogens<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition organised by the Department of Health in partnership with Innovate UK.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/sbri-the-small-business-research-initiative\">Find out more about SBRI and how it has helped businesses.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"competition-information\">Competition information<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition opens on 23 January 2017, and the deadline for registration is noon on 12 April 2017<\/li>\n<li>the competition is open to any organisation, and there must be a realistic route to exploitation<\/li>\n<li>funding will be in the form of fully funded development contracts<\/li>\n<li>we expect projects to last between 24 and 36 months<\/li>\n<li>individual contracts for clinical development up to and including phase IIb trials will be worth up to \u00a33 million<\/li>\n<li>a briefing event for potential applicants will be held in January 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/sbri-funding-competition-vaccines-for-global-epidemics-clinical\">Find out more about this competition and apply.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Business can apply for a share of \u00a335 million to support the clinical development of potential vaccines for 12 global priority diseases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/75844"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=75844"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/75844\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=75844"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=75844"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=75844"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
