{"id":76156,"date":"2016-11-16T12:03:43","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T12:03:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=069e8390c60e573cf9b56989b8093bee"},"modified":"2016-11-16T12:03:43","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T12:03:43","slug":"news-story-surveillance-camera-commissioners-annual-report-for-2015-to-2016-published-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=76156","title":{"rendered":"News story: Surveillance Camera Commissioner\u2019s annual report for 2015 to 2016 published"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Today the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/surveillance-camera-commissioner-annual-report-2015-to-2016\">Surveillance Camera Commissioner\u2019s third annual report<\/a><br \/>\nwas laid before Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>In his report, the commissioner highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>the launch of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/surveillance-camera-code-of-practice-third-party-certification-scheme\">third party certification scheme<\/a> in November 2015 enabling any organisation to outwardly demonstrate compliance with the surveillance camera code of practice (approximately 40 organisations have been awarded his certification mark since launch)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>completion of the review into the impact and operation of the surveillance camera code of practice (submitted to Home Office ministers in February 2016 outlining 9 recommendations)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>liaison with all principal local authority chief executives to encourage completion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/surveillance-camera-code-of-practice-self-assessment-tool\">self-assessment tool<\/a> \u2013 85% of local authorities have completed it<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>development on updating the Home Office Centre for Applied Science Operational Requirement into a \u2018passport for compliance\u2019 for organisations to follow when thinking about the installation of CCTV (due for publication in 2017)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>beginning work on a national surveillance camera strategy for England and Wales (aimed at providing direction and leadership to enable system operators to understand best practice and demonstrate compliance with the principles of the surveillance camera code of practice and any associated guidance)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>work with the National Police Chiefs\u2019 Council lead on automatic number plate recognition (<abbr title=\"automatic number plate recognition\">ANPR<\/abbr>) to promote transparency of its use across all forces to provide greater clarity on governance arrangements and consideration of the legislative framework to support <abbr title=\"automatic number plate recognition\">ANPR<\/abbr><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Surveillance Camera Commissioner Tony Porter said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Yet again it\u2019s been an incredibly busy and challenging year. I\u2019ve continued to see lots of great examples of good practice from relevant authorities and those who fall outside the scope of this definition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The completion rates of my self assessment tool amongst local authorities has been astounding at around 85%. Equally there is room for improvement and I\u2019m determined to continue my push to raise standards across the industry.
