{"id":76178,"date":"2016-11-16T16:24:00","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T16:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a16895b4683a4b94392690a28e3a1e82"},"modified":"2016-11-16T16:24:00","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T16:24:00","slug":"news-story-professor-alan-manning-appointed-as-chair-of-the-migration-advisory-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=76178","title":{"rendered":"News story: Professor Alan Manning appointed as chair of the Migration Advisory Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Professor Alan Manning has been appointed by the Home Secretary as the new chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/migration-advisory-committee\">Migration Advisory Committee<\/a> (<abbr title=\"Migration Advisory Committee\">MAC<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>Professor Manning has been a <abbr title=\"Migration Advisory Committee\">MAC<\/abbr> committee member since March 2015 and replaces former chair Professor Sir David Metcalf, whose term of office has come to an end.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Manning has been appointed for a 3 year term following a rigorous recruitment process regulated by the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/publicappointmentscommissioner.independent.gov.uk\/\">Commissioner for Public Appointments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Home Secretary Amber Rudd said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Professor Manning will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role as chair of the Migration Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Under his leadership, I am confident the government will continue to receive transparent, independent and evidence-based advice on migration issues.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Professor Manning is a Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics (LSE) and is director of the Centre for Economic Performance\u2019s research programme on community.<\/p>\n<p>His expertise is on labour markets, including but not confined to the impact of migration.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Alan Manning said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am delighted to have been appointed chair of the Migration Advisory Committee. As a committee member since 2015, I have engaged closely with the <abbr title=\"Migration Advisory Committee\">MAC<\/abbr>\u2019s work and I look forward to taking up this leadership position. I pay tribute to my predecessor\u2019s role in establishing the <abbr title=\"Migration Advisory Committee\">MAC<\/abbr> as an effective, authoritative body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I look forward to leading this distinguished team of experts.
