{"id":76369,"date":"2016-11-22T13:27:03","date_gmt":"2016-11-22T13:27:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=c466a3de9cf018a01d7edd56b1c17520"},"modified":"2016-11-22T13:27:03","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T13:27:03","slug":"press-release-major-resurfacing-work-to-take-place-on-the-a1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=76369","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Major resurfacing work to take place on the A1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The A1 will be closed northbound from 8pm on Saturday 26 November until 6am on Monday 27 November between junction 50 (Leeming Bar) and Catterick North.<\/p>\n<p>Contractors working on behalf of Highways England will be laying more than 1,100 tonnes of new road surface as they reconstruct the northbound carriageway. The southbound carriageway will remain open.<\/p>\n<p>Northbound traffic will be directed off the A1 at junction 49 and will re-join at junction 60.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3380 million Highways England project, which began in 2014, will replace the existing dual carriageway with a new three lane motorway which will open next year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A1_image\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/58471\/image.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Highways England project manager Tom Howard said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Our contractors will be replacing the existing carriageway with a new road surface which is why it is essential we close this section of the A1.<\/p>\n<p>We are advising people to plan their journeys, and would like to thank drivers for their patience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">When the whole project is complete, the section of the A1 between Leeming and Barton will be upgraded to a three-lane motorway, tackling congestion and improving journey times.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Drivers who intend to travel northbound on the A1 during the closure are being advised to check the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.trafficengland.com\/\">latest traffic conditions<\/a> before they set off. Clearly signed diversions will be in place and drivers are advised to allow for an extra 30 minutes to their journey time.<\/p>\n<p>Once completed, the A1 Leeming to Barton scheme will create a continuous motorway-standard route between London and Newcastle (including the M1 and A1M).
