{"id":76389,"date":"2016-11-23T12:40:05","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T12:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5237c38dc212a12f548e114807328e54"},"modified":"2016-11-23T12:40:05","modified_gmt":"2016-11-23T12:40:05","slug":"press-release-open-banking-transformation-moves-a-step-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=76389","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Open Banking transformation moves a step closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The development of Open Banking \u2013 the use of technology to provide customers with more control over their accounts and financial services \u2013 is one of 17 <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>-imposed changes that will make banks work harder for their customers.<\/p>\n<p>Other changes, on which the Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) is opening a consultation today, will require banks to cap their monthly unarranged overdraft charges, help customers avoid unarranged overdraft charges by making banks text them when they are at risk of going overdrawn, and also help customers compare the service they get from their bank with other banks.<\/p>\n<p>Alasdair Smith, Chairman of the retail banking market investigation, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>These reforms will fundamentally transform banking for personal customers and small businesses. They will break down barriers, increase competition and give customers control over their own money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Taken together we expect our remedies to deliver direct benefits to customers of between \u00a3700 million and \u00a31 billion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In its final <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/cma-paves-the-way-for-open-banking-revolution\">report<\/a> published in August this year, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> announced measures aimed at ensuring that customers benefit from technological advances, and that new entrants and smaller providers can compete more fairly.<\/p>\n<p>Further measures in today\u2019s consultation include requiring banks to publish rates for small and medium-sized enterprise (<abbr title=\"small and medium-sized enterprise\">SME<\/abbr>) lending products and to develop tools to allow for easier comparison of <abbr title=\"small and medium-sized enterprise\">SME<\/abbr> banking products.<\/p>\n<p>Responses on the 17 measures in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/review-of-banking-for-small-and-medium-sized-businesses-smes-in-the-uk\">draft order<\/a> are invited by 5pm on 23 December by email to <a href=\"mailto:retailbanking@cma.gsi.gov.uk\">retailbanking@cma.gsi.gov.uk<\/a> or by post to:<\/p>\n<div class=\"address\">\n<div class=\"adr org fn\">\n<p>Project Manager<br \/>\n<br \/>Retail banking market investigation<br \/>\n<br \/>Competition and Markets Authority<br \/>\n<br \/>Victoria House<br \/>\n<br \/>Southampton Row<br \/>\n<br \/>London   WC1A 4AD<br \/>\n\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"notes-for-editors\">Notes for editors<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> is the UK\u2019s primary competition and consumer authority.
