Secretary General Stoltenberg agreed that the UK is playing a leading role by meeting our commitment to spend 2% of <abbr title=\"Gross Domestic Product\">GDP<\/abbr> on defence, contributing troops to deterrence measures in Eastern Europe and maintaining our independent nuclear deterrent.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister and Secretary General Stoltenberg spoke about the importance of <abbr title=\"North Atlantic Treaty Organisation\">NATO<\/abbr> members meeting the 2% commitment and agreed to continue to encourage allies to increase defence spending.<\/p>\n<p>They discussed the recent US election and the importance of the transatlantic bond to security.
