{"id":76787,"date":"2016-12-02T12:20:00","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T12:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=24a2de537cc77b35f81cdefa73da6769"},"modified":"2016-12-02T12:20:00","modified_gmt":"2016-12-02T12:20:00","slug":"news-story-work-progresses-at-lightening-pace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=76787","title":{"rendered":"News story: Work progresses at Lightning pace"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The contract has been awarded to Wates Construction Ltd and forms part of a \u00a3250 million programme of works, part of the major investment by the Ministry of Defence, to ready the station for the arrival of the aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Dawson, Lightning II <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> Principal Project Manager said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This award is great news. We look forward to working collaboratively with Wates to ensure the successful delivery of this important <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> project.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the contract, Wates Construction Ltd will deliver new Squadron Headquarters to support the new aircraft, scheduled to come in to service at the Norfolk Station in mid-2018.<\/p>\n<p>A critical piece of infrastructure, the works, which will contribute to the creation of 300 jobs through the overall project, are expected to commence early 2017 and completed by mid-2018 with the building becoming the Squadron Headquarters for mission planning, administration and maintenance for the next generation of <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> operational fast jet aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Vickers, Managing Director of Wates Construction Home Counties said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are delighted to be chosen for this exciting project at <abbr title=\"Royal Air Force\">RAF<\/abbr> Marham, which is our first success on the <abbr title=\"Defence Infrastructure Organisation\">DIO<\/abbr> framework.  We look forward to working with client and their team in the delivery of the new Squadron Headquarters and bringing local opportunities for training and employment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The fifth generation F-35B jets are the most advanced aircraft ever built for the UK and will be operated initially by 617 \u2018The Dambusters\u2019 Squadron, Royal Air Force, followed by 809 \u2018The Immortals\u2019 Naval Air Squadron, in 2023. Combined, they will transform the UK\u2019s ability to project UK influence overseas.
