{"id":76942,"date":"2016-12-06T14:13:29","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T14:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=de88250ca544a9de1d3eb3f7a3d31c3f"},"modified":"2016-12-06T14:13:29","modified_gmt":"2016-12-06T14:13:29","slug":"news-story-government-invests-over-2-5-million-in-new-technologies-and-ideas-to-futureproof-uks-transport-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=76942","title":{"rendered":"News story: Government invests over \u00a32.5 million in new technologies and ideas to futureproof UK\u2019s transport sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A \u00a32.5 million package of awards for companies, individuals and academics to make travelling safer, quicker and more reliable has today (6 December 2016) been announced by the government.<\/p>\n<p>These grants include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>33 Transport Technology Research Innovation Grants (<abbr title=\"Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant\">T-TRIG<\/abbr>) worth a total of \u00a3833,000 awarded to early-stage science, engineering or technology innovations<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>a further round of competition for <abbr title=\"Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant\">T-TRIG<\/abbr> awards worth approximately \u00a3700,000 opened today<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>a new Innovation Challenge Fund (worth approximately \u00a31 million) to invest in development of promising technology ideas<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taken together, these schemes aim to reduce barriers to innovation and advance technology in transport.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister John Hayes said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This government is committed to delivering a much better transport system, and innovation is a vital part of that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are already making headway and expect to see more smart ideas and technologies coming from this funding.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Through these schemes, small businesses and academics gain access to much needed financial support allowing them to explore new ideas and move innovations on to the next stage of development.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dft.gov.uk\/innovation-grants\">Transport Technology Research Innovation Grants<\/a> (<abbr title=\"Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant\">T-TRIG<\/abbr>) cover all forms of transport and help develop high quality ideas from concept to prototype stage.<\/p>\n<p>The winners of the July 2016 <abbr title=\"Transport Technology Research Innovation Grant\">T-TRIG<\/abbr> scheme have each been awarded around \u00a325,000 each to provide innovative transport solutions which improve safety, improve customer experience, or increase efficiency.
