{"id":77046,"date":"2016-12-08T14:11:31","date_gmt":"2016-12-08T14:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=7dd068108fe0263d4c3ed1e72b0041ec"},"modified":"2016-12-08T14:11:31","modified_gmt":"2016-12-08T14:11:31","slug":"news-story-first-major-survey-of-britains-attitudes-on-obesity-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=77046","title":{"rendered":"News story: First major survey of Britain\u2019s attitudes on obesity published"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The findings of the first British Social Attitudes (<abbr title=\"British Social Attitudes\">BSA<\/abbr>) survey on obesity, commissioned by Public Health England (<abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr>), were published today (8 December 2016).<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr> commissioned <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.natcen.ac.uk\"><abbr title=\"National Centre for Social Research\">NatCen<\/abbr> Social Research<\/a> to include a set of questions in its <abbr title=\"British Social Attitudes\">BSA<\/abbr> survey to understand the public\u2019s view of obesity and related issues. The paper, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bsa.natcen.ac.uk\/latest-report\/british-social-attitudes-33\/obesity.aspx\">Attitudes to obesity<\/a>, presents <abbr title=\"National Centre for Social Research\">NatCen<\/abbr>\u2019s analysis of the results.<\/p>\n<p>The primary findings show that people underestimate their weight and struggle to identify the point when someone becomes obese. Almost two thirds of adults are overweight or obese. All of this combined suggests being overweight or obese is normalised in society.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"British Social Attitudes\">BSA<\/abbr> is an authoritative source of data on the views of the British public, carried out annually since 1983. It uses a random probability sampling methodology to yield a representative sample of adults, aged 18 and older, living in private households in Britain.
