{"id":77095,"date":"2016-12-09T13:04:19","date_gmt":"2016-12-09T13:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2860b3052a14cd7494fa12c12147e840"},"modified":"2016-12-09T13:04:19","modified_gmt":"2016-12-09T13:04:19","slug":"press-release-improved-safety-information-in-450000-m55-signs-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=77095","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Improved safety information in \u00a3450,000 M55 signs upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A \u00a3450,000 Highways England project to give drivers using the M55 in Lancashire better warnings about congestion, incidents and bad weather has been completed in less than a week.<\/p>\n<p>Five of the latest electronic variable message signs, which can display pictorial as well as text messages, have been installed along the eastern end of the motorway between junction 1 at Broughton and the interchange with junction 32 of the M6.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Gantry message1\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/59115\/MS4c.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Typical &#8216;pictogram&#8217; message (on top of gantry being used on a controlled motorway section along the M25)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new signs will allow Highways England traffic officers at the North West Regional Control Centre at Newton-le-Willows and colleagues at the National Traffic Operation Centre in Birmingham, to give clearer information \u2013 with the internationally-recognised symbols helping to warn drivers of dangers ahead including accidents, congestion, snow and ice, high winds or an increased skid risk.<\/p>\n<p>Highways England project manager Phil Tyrrell said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This is the first time drivers using the M55 will be able to benefit from these \u2018pictogram\u2019 signs which we\u2019ve delivered as a replacement for older and now life-expired signs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Installing them in existing locations has meant we\u2019ve been able to complete the work pretty quickly overnight with as little disruption to drivers\u2019 journeys as possible.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Gantry message1\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/59116\/MS4b.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Stand alone pictogram sign combining text and graphics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new signs were fastened to 4 existing overhead gantries along the eastbound carriageway during 3 nights of work last week.
