{"id":77196,"date":"2016-12-13T11:45:00","date_gmt":"2016-12-13T11:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fb89c21ab094b307aba387377e887352"},"modified":"2017-03-20T16:11:48","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T16:11:48","slug":"news-story-inside-porton-down-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=77196","title":{"rendered":"News story: Inside Porton Down documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Updated to publicise new broadcast date<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>To help mark the 100th anniversary of defence operations at Porton Down, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (<abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>) gave a BBC team unprecedented access to produce a behind the scenes documentary, Inside Porton Down.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b07hx40t\">Watch the Inside Porton Down documentary on BBC iPlayer<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During their filming the BBC were given high levels of access to Porton Down\u2019s facilities and scientists, showing how <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> is using cutting edge science and technology to counter threats, existing and new, to the public and the Armed Forces. This included access to research into the development of the latest generation of chemical and biological countermeasures.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive of <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>, Jonathan Lyle, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am immensely proud of the work that <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>\u2019s staff are doing to protect our Armed Forces and our citizens. For example, we played a critical role in the UK\u2019s effort to tackle the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone and we are making a vital contribution to countering terrorism both at home and overseas.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\"><abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> seeks to be open about the type of work that we do at Porton Down and at our other sites across the UK.
