{"id":77280,"date":"2016-12-15T10:06:06","date_gmt":"2016-12-15T10:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=0591812218268d882a180643dcbbfd2a"},"modified":"2016-12-15T10:06:06","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T10:06:06","slug":"news-story-reducing-variation-in-manufacturing-apply-for-business-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=77280","title":{"rendered":"News story: Reducing variation in manufacturing: apply for business funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Innovate UK, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stfc.ac.uk\/\">Science &amp; Technology Facilities Council<\/a> (STFC), <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npl.co.uk\/\">National Physical Laboratory<\/a> (NPL), <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lgcgroup.com\/\">LGC<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tuv-sud.co.uk\/uk-en\/about-tuev-sued\/tuev-sued-in-the-uk\/nel\">NEL<\/a> are to invest up to \u00a36.5 million in innovation projects that improve business performance and productivity through advanced anaytical technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to help companies overcome problems with product, manufacturing and process performance. Understanding variability is criticial to ensuring efficient production and quality of products.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of problems that new analytical technologies could help in understanding include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>poorly understood structure and properties of emerging technology products, where the business impact is high<\/li>\n<li>undesirable variation in product or process performance, where the root cause is not understood, but the negative business impact is high<\/li>\n<li>repeated unexplained product failures<\/li>\n<li>lack of precision in composition measurement or flow of multi-component systems, or processes<\/li>\n<li>lack of detailed understanding of structure, mechanism or function, preventing further product enhancements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Innovate UK has up to \u00a33 million to fund projects and a further \u00a33.5 million is available from the partner organisations.
