{"id":77337,"date":"2016-12-15T17:09:23","date_gmt":"2016-12-15T17:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=afc128cf58abbc1b260cc1ced694b50b"},"modified":"2016-12-15T17:09:23","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T17:09:23","slug":"news-story-dvsa-officers-gain-commendation-awards-for-acts-of-heroism-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=77337","title":{"rendered":"News story: DVSA officers gain commendation awards for acts of heroism"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Neil Whitehouse and Paul Harding received commendation certificates on 6 December 2016 from the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.west-midlands.police.uk\/keeping-you-safe\/behind-the-badge\/motorways\/index.aspx\">Central Motorway Policing Group<\/a> (<abbr title=\"Central Motorway Policing Group\">CMPG<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Central Motorway Policing Group\">CMPG<\/abbr> is made up of officers and staff from West Midlands, West Mercia and Staffordshire police forces.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"neil-helped-to-save-a-life\">Neil helped to save a life<\/h2>\n<p>Neil was on duty on the M6 in June 2016 when he helped to prevent a suicide attempt by a teenage girl at Doxey in Staffordshire.<\/p>\n<p>She had run away from a social care facility. A member of her care staff was following her when Neil pulled over his vehicle and ran to help. They pulled the teenager to safety from a bridge\u2019s railings.<\/p>\n<p>Neil then had to restrain her as she made a further attempt to take her own life.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"paul-apprehends-suspect\">Paul apprehends suspect<\/h2>\n<p>Paul was on duty in August 2016 when he saw a man running on the M6 motorway, trying to evade police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Thinking quickly, Paul slowed vehicles to a stop to prevent the suspect and other motorists from harm.<\/p>\n<p>As the suspect passed by, Paul tackled and restrained him. It enabled the police officers to arrest the suspect.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"immensely-proud\">\u201cImmensely proud\u201d<\/h2>\n<p><abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr> Chief Executive, Gareth Llewellyn, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am immensely proud of the swift actions taken by Neil and Paul.<\/p>\n<p>Due to their quick-thinking they helped prevent the loss of lives and bring an offender to justice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">All our enforcement officers are trained to a very high standard enabling them to remain calm and professional in all situations.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"courage-and-professionalism\">Courage and professionalism<\/h2>\n<p>Chief Inspector Jed White, Central Motorway Police Group, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Central Motorway Policing Group are assisted regularly on the motorway by key partners including <abbr title=\"Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency\">DVSA<\/abbr>.
