{"id":77520,"date":"2016-12-22T00:15:06","date_gmt":"2016-12-22T00:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=caed90284bc8d3ee8c6ac4cdf2c00510"},"modified":"2016-12-22T00:15:06","modified_gmt":"2016-12-22T00:15:06","slug":"press-release-440-million-broadband-boost-to-benefit-more-than-half-a-million-premises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=77520","title":{"rendered":"Press release: \u00a3440 million broadband boost to benefit more than half a million premises"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Funding has been unlocked to give more properties in the hardest-to-reach parts of the UK the quick and reliable internet connections which are a vital part of modern life.<\/p>\n<p>The cash boost is a combination of efficiency savings and a clawback mechanism which re-invests money when people take up superfast connections installed by the Broadband Delivery UK project.<\/p>\n<p>New figures show around 1.5 million homes and businesses have now taken advantage and signed up for superfast connections in areas where Government has subsidised rollout.<\/p>\n<p>As a result,  BT will be releasing \u00a3292 million for extra connections \u2013 with \u00a3133 million already allocated to be spent in regions around the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Careful contract management by the Government, local authorities and BT has also saved more than \u00a3150 million across 44 projects as the first phase of rollout draws to a close.<\/p>\n<p>It means a total of \u00a3442 million can  now be reinvested in taking superfast speeds to some of the most remote parts of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Culture Secretary Karen Bradley said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Our Broadband Delivery UK programme is giving families and businesses in hard-to-reach areas the fast and reliable internet connections which are increasingly at the heart of modern life.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Strong take-up and robust value-for-money measures mean \u00a3440 million will be available for reinvestment where it matters \u2013 putting more connections in the ground.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This will benefit around 600,000 extra premises and is a further sign of our commitment to build a country that works for everyone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Superfast speeds (measured at 24Mbps) allow families to watch TV on multiple devices at the same time, or let children do homework while parents do online banking and shopping.<\/p>\n<p>The technology is ideal for most businesses too, allowing bosses to run websites and buy and sell online, and is expected to carry on meeting these needs for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Around 4.5million premises have been given access to superfast broadband through the Government\u2019s \u00a31.7 billion Broadband Delivery UK rollout, with more than 1.5 million signing up for a faster connection.<\/p>\n<p>It means more than 90 per cent of the UK can now get superfast broadband \u2013 up from 45 per cent in 2010 .<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Bradley is encouraging more people to sign up to unlock extra funding for more connections.<\/p>\n<p>The Culture Secretary said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We have made great progress but there is still more to do.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Broadband speeds aren\u2019t boosted automatically \u2013 it needs people to sign up.
