{"id":78268,"date":"2017-01-24T10:02:53","date_gmt":"2017-01-24T10:02:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=241e7d608d59e502f9fcc418a69271ed"},"modified":"2017-01-24T10:02:53","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T10:02:53","slug":"news-story-bmw-changes-policy-on-car-comparison-sites-following-cma-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=78268","title":{"rendered":"News story: BMW changes policy on car comparison sites following CMA action"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Last year new car portal, carwow, told the Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) that BMW UK was stopping its dealers from listing BMW and MINI cars on the portal, and asked the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> to investigate whether this breached competition law.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> carried out an initial assessment of the complaint and met both carwow and BMW UK. Following its engagement with the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>, BMW UK informed the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> of its decision to change its policy in order to allow its dealers to work with carwow and similar internet-based new car portals.<\/p>\n<p>Given this change of policy, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> has decided against initiating a formal investigation into BMW UK at this time.<\/p>\n<p>As the UK\u2019s competition authority, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> works to promote competition for the benefit of consumers and carefully examines any concerns brought to it.<\/p>\n<p>Ann Pope, <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> Senior Director of Antitrust, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Online comparison tools can promote competition in many markets and help consumers make informed choices.
