It is co-funded by Innovate UK and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mrc.ac.za\/\">South African Medical Research Council<\/a> (SAMRC).<\/p>\n<p>Projects should seek to develop affordable gene-based diagnostic solutions and targeted treatments for one or more of the following health challenges in South Africa:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>diabetes<\/li>\n<li>cardiovascular disease<\/li>\n<li>cancer<\/li>\n<li>child mortality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The competition is administered by the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.newtonfund.ac.uk\">Newton Fund<\/a>. Projects must demonstrate how they can have a positive social, economic and\/or environmental impact on the wider South African population.<\/p>\n<p>The Newton Fund is part of the UK\u2019s official development assistance.
