This is creating new opportunities for UK businesses to develop new medicines and therapies and for improved food production.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will support projects in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>increasing yield, quality and sustainability in agriculture and food production<\/li>\n<li>supporting advanced therapies (cell and gene therapies), precision medicine or pre-clinical technologies<\/li>\n<li>developing bioscience techniques and capabilities that have the potential to improve healthcare and\/or agriculture and food production in the future<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is the second of 2 competitions in this financial year supporting innovation in health and life sciences.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/innovate-uk-health-and-life-sciences\">Find out more about how Innovate UK supports the health and life sciences sector.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"competition-information\">Competition information<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition opens on 6 February 2017, and the deadline for registration is at midday on 5 April 2017<\/li>\n<li>projects should usually be led by a business and include at least one SME.
