{"id":78613,"date":"2017-02-02T21:32:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T21:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=6af1b0cf81fa5263961fd2295107fbbf"},"modified":"2017-02-02T21:32:00","modified_gmt":"2017-02-02T21:32:00","slug":"press-release-multi-million-pound-cash-boost-to-help-create-local-jobs-and-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=78613","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Multi-million pound cash boost to help create local jobs and growth"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Communities Secretary Sajid Javid today (2 February 2017) announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/london-south-east-and-east-of-england-growth-deals\">the latest instalment<\/a> from a \u00a31.8 billion dedicated Local Growth Fund to help create jobs, support businesses and encourage growth.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Mr Javid announced \u00a3492 million for 8 local enterprise partnerships across London, the South East, and a further \u00a3150 million for the East of England.<\/p>\n<p>This investment could see 237,000 jobs created, 119,000 homes built and attract over \u00a34.7 billion investment. It comes on top of the \u00a32.2 billion of growth funding already awarded.<\/p>\n<p>In line with the government\u2019s modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/building-our-industrial-strategy\">Industrial Strategy<\/a>, this funding will help build on the UK\u2019s strengths and spread growth more evenly across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Communities Secretary Sajid Javid said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As part of efforts to deliver an economy that works for everyone, the government is equipping local people with the resources they need to boost growth in their area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This new money will give businesses across the region the support and opportunities they need to achieve their potential. This is on top of the \u00a32.2 billion we have already awarded.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Minister for London Gavin Barwell said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>London is recognised the world over as an economic powerhouse and we\u2019re determined to see it go from strength-to-strength.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Today\u2019s \u00a3141 million funding for the capital will help deliver as many as 5,400 homes over the next 5 years, support projects to improve the environment at the heart of the city and help young Londoners learn a wide range of new skills.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Local Growth Minister Andrew Percy said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>From Brighton to the Norfolk Broads today\u2019s investment will support the delivery of new homes and jobs right across the South East and East of England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">These growth deals are a crucial part of our efforts to create an economy that works for everyone, and will ensure every region of the country has the chance to realise its full potential.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"creating-an-economy-that-works-for-everyone\">Creating an economy that works for everyone<\/h2>\n<p>The \u00a312 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/local-growth-deals\">Local Growth Fund<\/a> provides local leaders with the cash they need to support locally determined projects. Under the fund, England\u2019s 38 local enterprise partnerships \u2013 made up of council leaders and business representatives \u2013 bid for investments based on local priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Bids are highly competitive and \u2013 to be successful \u2013 local enterprise partnerships need to work with partners to agree strong and accountable governance and put forward proposals that boost growth and bring in private sector funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a37.3 billion of the \u00a312 billion Local Growth Fund has already been allocated to more than 900 projects across England \u2013 helping to build vital infrastructure, improve skills and create thousands of jobs. The remainder of the funding has been invested in projects such as improving transport networks and building new homes.<\/p>\n<p>Across London, the South East and the East of England, this has already:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>invested \u00a3102 million in 20 projects across London\u2019s further education sector, which are projected to provide support to over 120,000 students and deliver nearly 17,000 apprenticeships<\/li>\n<li>contributed \u00a34.5 million into the Oxfordshire Centre for Technology and Innovation to boost local skills in across engineering and emerging technologies<\/li>\n<li>funded improvements to the A2300 Burgess Hill Link Road relieving congestion and unlocking up to 3,000 new homes and 5,000 jobs<\/li>\n<li>put the UK at the forefront of next generation mobile communication development by supporting the establishment of the 5G Innovation Centre at the University of Surrey<\/li>\n<li>started the creation of the world-first International Aviation Academy \u2013 Norwich, which will deliver training in all aspects of aviation engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now this latest allocation of \u00a31.8 billion government investment \u2013 including \u00a3492 million in London and the South East and \u00a3150 million in the East of England \u2013 will help do even more to benefit the lives of local people across the country.
