{"id":78619,"date":"2017-02-03T10:35:28","date_gmt":"2017-02-03T10:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a9e04291953780529b3da38b58207605"},"modified":"2017-02-03T10:35:28","modified_gmt":"2017-02-03T10:35:28","slug":"press-release-heineken-paying-160000-over-pollution-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=78619","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Heineken paying \u00a3160,000 over pollution incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Environment Agency has accepted an offer of \u00a3160,000 for an enforcement undertaking from brewer Heineken UK following a pollution incident at their cider factory in Hereford, which saw several thousand fish killed.<\/p>\n<p>Heineken have also paid more than \u00a312,000 to cover the Environment Agency\u2019s legal costs.<\/p>\n<p>The incident, at their Bulmer\u2019s cider plant in August 2014, was caused when a container of ammonia-contaminated water was emptied to a surface water drain which connected to the Widemarsh Brook.<\/p>\n<p>At the time it was estimated that between 2,000 and 3,000 fish were killed including bullhead, minnows, juvenile chub &amp; dace.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Agency spokesperson Dave Throup said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It\u2019s very unfortunate that a significant pollution of one of Hereford\u2019s main watercourses happened as a result of Heineken\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">However, we are pleased that the company is planning to make a positive contribution to the county\u2019s environment by offering this enforcement undertaking.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As a result of the enforcement undertaking, \u00a3150,000 will go the Wye &amp; Usk foundation and \u00a310,000 to Yazor Widemarsh &amp; Eign Brook restoration project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Environment Agency has accepted an enforcement undertaking from a major brewer following a pollution incident on a Herefordshire Brook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/78619"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=78619"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/78619\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=78619"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=78619"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=78619"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
