{"id":78799,"date":"2017-02-09T12:01:46","date_gmt":"2017-02-09T12:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=a1472ce155d4c0539e993136d6605524"},"modified":"2017-02-09T12:01:46","modified_gmt":"2017-02-09T12:01:46","slug":"news-story-manchester-hospital-trusts-request-fast-track-merger-reference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=78799","title":{"rendered":"News story: Manchester hospital trusts request fast track merger reference"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (<abbr title=\"Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust\">CMFT<\/abbr>) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (<abbr title=\"University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust\">UHSM<\/abbr>) have announced they are planning to merge.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust\">UHSM<\/abbr> includes Wythenshawe Hospital and Withington Community Hospital, and <abbr title=\"Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust\">CMFT<\/abbr> includes Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Royal Manchester Children\u2019s Hospital, Altrincham Hospital, Saint Mary\u2019s Hospital, The University Dental Hospital and Trafford Hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>The ability of patients and commissioning bodies to choose between hospitals gives healthcare providers incentives to improve the quality of their services for the benefit of patients.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, under the Enterprise Act 2002 and the Health and Social Care Act 2012, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will now investigate the impact this merger could have on patient choice and the quality of healthcare services provided.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA has also received a request from <abbr title=\"Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust\">CMFT<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust\">UHSM<\/abbr> to fast-track the investigation, and so it is today issuing an invitation for interested parties to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/central-manchester-university-hospitals-university-hospital-of-south-manchester-merger-inquiry\">comment on the request<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA is able to accelerate the referral of a merger case to an in-depth phase 2 investigation when requested by the merging parties.
