{"id":78884,"date":"2017-02-13T09:43:50","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T09:43:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fdec7824783b734bdf3dc640595be7d0"},"modified":"2017-02-13T09:43:50","modified_gmt":"2017-02-13T09:43:50","slug":"news-story-berlin-embassy-reception-for-edinburgh-international-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=78884","title":{"rendered":"News story: Berlin Embassy reception for Edinburgh International Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The British Embassy Berlin this week [10 February 2017] hosted this year\u2019s Berlinale reception to celebrate the 70th anniversary year of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF).<\/p>\n<p>Scottish Secretary David Mundell and British Ambassador to Germany Sir Sebastian Wood held the event at the embassy for the first time.  The reception is  key  to engaging the world\u2019s film industry in Edinburgh\u2019s film festival.  The EIFF runs from 21 June to 2 July in the city.<\/p>\n<p>David Mundell said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This is a momentous year for the EIFF, as it celebrates its 70th anniversary. It focuses the world\u2019s cinema industry on Scotland, while showcasing some of the most interesting and entertaining films in the world.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I am very pleased that the UK Government hosted EIFF\u2019s Berlinale reception at the British Embassy. The world\u2019s film industry will be gathered in Berlin, making it a great opportunity to show off this year\u2019s EIFF. I hope that many will be able to join us in Edinburgh for the festival in June.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sir Sebastian Wood said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This evening we are celebrating two major international film festivals: the Berlinale and the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF). In its 70th anniversary year, the EIFF will no doubt have a particularly exciting programme on offer this summer. So I am delighted to be able to welcome the Secretary of State for Scotland, David Mundell, among our guests here in the Embassy this evening.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It is also great to see Danny Boyle\u2019s \u2018T2 Trainspotting\u2019 have its international premiere in Berlin \u2013 hopefully the sequel will be just as successful as its predecessor.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Edinburgh\u2019s festivals are hugely important in economic terms, as well as putting Scotland and the UK on the international cultural map.
