{"id":79155,"date":"2017-02-22T17:00:48","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T17:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=7526f4204cc8a21b40705be480488c86"},"modified":"2017-02-22T17:00:48","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T17:00:48","slug":"news-story-business-secretary-and-ministers-hold-meeting-with-leading-retailers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=79155","title":{"rendered":"News story: Business Secretary and Ministers hold meeting with leading retailers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Business Secretary Greg Clark chaired a roundtable today (22 February 2017) with the country\u2019s top retailers and trade bodies to discuss the sector\u2019s priorities and how the government\u2019s <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/beisgovuk.citizenspace.com\/strategy\/industrial-strategy\/?utm_campaign=gov&amp;utm_source=gov.uk&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_content=homepage\">Industrial Strategy<\/a> can help the industry respond to future opportunities and challenges.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, Greg Clark stressed the vital role the UK retail sector has as a driving force in our economy, and the critical part it has to play in delivering the government\u2019s vision of an economy which works for everyone.<br \/>\nThe Business Secretary was joined by Small Business and Consumer Minister Margot James and Jane Ellison, Financial Secretary to the Treasury. They met chief executives from the UK\u2019s top retailers including ASOS, Boots, Shop Direct, Co-op Group, Dixons Carphone, Sainsbury\u2019s-Argos and Superdrug as well as key industry trade bodies, the British Retail Consortium (BRC), the Federation of Small Businesses and British Independent Retailers Association.<\/p>\n<p>Following the meeting, Business Secretary Greg Clark said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe retail sector makes an invaluable contribution to our economy, delivering \u00a3340 billion of sales in 2015 alone. It is vitally important that government and industry work closely together to help the sector create high skilled and high paying jobs across the UK, improve productivity and shape the future of retail in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe retail roundtable was a great opportunity to discuss the sector\u2019s priorities and how the government can support it through our Industrial Strategy, helping it build on its existing strengths, address challenges and seize new opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Helen Dickinson OBE, Chief Executive of the British Retail Consortium said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to ensuring that the retail industry is able to maximise its future contribution to the UK\u2019s success.
