{"id":79180,"date":"2017-02-23T07:11:30","date_gmt":"2017-02-23T07:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=3ae3005a8413b5e79db0a09d76cf8974"},"modified":"2017-02-23T07:11:30","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T07:11:30","slug":"news-story-taxpayers-stake-in-lloyds-now-below-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=79180","title":{"rendered":"News story: Taxpayer\u2019s stake in Lloyds now below 4%"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The latest sales, conducted via the trading plan, mean the government has recovered over \u00a319 billion of the \u00a320.3 billion taxpayers injected into Lloyds during the financial crisis, once share sales and dividends received are accounted for.<\/p>\n<p>Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Simon Kirby, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Since the decision to sell the government\u2019s stake in Lloyds we have now recovered over \u00a319 billion for the taxpayer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Lloyds\u2019 strong annual results show that we are in a good position to continue to reduce our shareholding and recover all of the money the tax-payer injected into the bank during the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A trading plan involves gradually selling shares in the market over time, in an orderly and measured way.<br \/>\nThe Lloyds trading plan initially ran from 17 December 2014 to 31 June 2016. The government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/sale-of-publics-stake-in-lloyds-to-restart-shortly\">announced on 7 October 2016<\/a> that further sales of Lloyds shares would also be made through a trading plan.<\/p>\n<p>On 9 January 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-taxpayer-no-longer-largest-lloyds-bank-shareholder\">the government announced<\/a> it had passed a significant milestone in returning Lloyds to the private sector when it confirmed it was no longer the bank\u2019s largest shareholder.<\/p>\n<p>As required by Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) rules, Lloyds Banking Group announced today that the government\u2019s shareholding in the bank has crossed through a one percentage point threshold \u2013 therefore notifying the market that the government has reduced its shareholding in Lloyds to below 4%.<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds from the sales are used to reduce the national debt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has continued to sell shares in Lloyds Banking Group, reducing its remaining shareholding to less than 4%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/79180"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=79180"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/79180\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=79180"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=79180"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=79180"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
