{"id":80000,"date":"2017-03-24T13:41:59","date_gmt":"2017-03-24T13:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=9c4c5d2c015b099d931f153b7789fdba"},"modified":"2017-03-24T13:41:59","modified_gmt":"2017-03-24T13:41:59","slug":"news-story-civilcrime-news-eligibility-for-legal-aid-and-universal-credit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=80000","title":{"rendered":"News story: Civil\/crime news: eligibility for legal aid and universal credit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A consultation called \u2018Legal aid financial eligibility and universal credit\u2019 is now open and the deadline for responses is 11 May 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The proposals seek to amend the legal aid financial eligibility system to accommodate the expansion of universal credit.<\/p>\n<p>The intention behind the government\u2019s proposals is to limit any additional burden on the legal aid budget rather than cutting costs.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"targeted-approach\">Targeted approach<\/h3>\n<p>This would be done by having means testing arrangements that ensure the limited funds available are targeted at those clients most in need.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation proposals also seek to ensure that clients contribute to the costs of their legal advice and representation where they are able to do so.<\/p>\n<p>All providers and interested parties can join in the consultation process by using the link below.
