{"id":80223,"date":"2017-03-30T12:05:28","date_gmt":"2017-03-30T12:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ad17095dfcb03029a2dc9691737fa0c4"},"modified":"2017-03-30T12:05:28","modified_gmt":"2017-03-30T12:05:28","slug":"press-release-new-section-of-a590-opens-after-lindal-dip-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=80223","title":{"rendered":"Press release: New section of A590 opens after Lindal &#8216;dip&#8217; work"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Highways England is thanking local people and drivers in Cumbria for their patience and support after a new section of the A590 was opened following a \u00a31 million engineering project to tackle flooding.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers started using the brand new section of the road at Lindal near Ulverston shortly after 5am this morning (Tuesday 28 March) as the 4 month project nears its completion at the end of the week.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lindal 'Dip' before and after photograph 1 \" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/62637\/Image_2.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Lindal &#8216;Dip&#8217; before and after photographs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lindal 'Dip' before and after photograph 2\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/62638\/Image_3.jpg\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Key elements of the construction work have included moving the carriageway 7 metres north west of the previous alignment and raising it by up to almost 2 metres in places \u2013 removing the so-called Lindal \u2018dip\u2019 and solving the flooding issue which in bad weather often required temporary traffic lights to manage traffic past the rain water.<\/p>\n<p>Highways England project manager Peter Gee said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Lindal Dip is no more. The completion of this work means we can keep the road fully open during bad weather, giving drivers safer and more reliable journeys.
