{"id":80261,"date":"2017-03-31T09:16:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T09:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=584e3b32963af3e7382830826cdd8b17"},"modified":"2017-03-31T09:16:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T09:16:00","slug":"news-story-business-minister-margot-james-renews-uks-commitment-to-corporate-responsibility-in-extractive-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=80261","title":{"rendered":"News story: Business Minister Margot James renews UK\u2019s commitment to corporate responsibility in extractive industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>UK publishes second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/extractive-industries-transparency-initiative-payments-report-2015\">Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative report<\/a> to improve transparency about the way governments benefit from their natural resources<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Report shows payments and receipts between Government and UK-based oil, gas and mining firms totalling \u00a3904m<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>60 extractive companies contributed data<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Business Minister Margot James today (31 March 2017) joined UK-based oil, gas and mining companies to renew the UK\u2019s commitment to corporate responsibility across the sector.<\/p>\n<p>This morning Margot James delivered a speech in Aberdeen to an audience of industry representatives to mark the publication of the second Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (<abbr title=\"Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative\">EITI<\/abbr>) report.<\/p>\n<p>The report provides a detailed breakdown of payments and receipts in 2015 between UK-based companies in the extractive sector and the UK government totalling \u00a3904 million.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 42 oil and gas companies and 18 mining and quarrying companies voluntarily contributed their data to help compile the report \u2013 almost 90% of eligible companies.<\/p>\n<p>The global scheme asks the 51 participating countries to publish the data to improve transparency about the way governments benefit from their natural resources.<\/p>\n<p>Business Minister and UK <abbr title=\"Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative\">EITI<\/abbr> Champion Margot James said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We are a proud leading member of the <abbr title=\"Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative\">EITI<\/abbr>. Improving corporate transparency across all sectors makes us even more attractive to foreign investors on our path to building a truly global Britain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I\u2019d like to thank all the  oil, gas, mining and quarrying companies who have contributed to this report and continue to help maintain our status as a global champion for greater transparency.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The UK\u2019s extractive industry contributed almost \u00a317 billion to the economy in 2015, with the UK the world\u2019s 21st largest producer of oil and gas.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"further-information\">Further information<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/eiti.org\/\"><abbr title=\"Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative\">EITI<\/abbr><\/a> launch event took place on Friday 31 March 2017.
