{"id":80336,"date":"2017-04-03T06:15:26","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T06:15:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ca83b55d38b7373a987a5761a0ba22fe"},"modified":"2017-04-03T06:15:26","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T06:15:26","slug":"news-story-taxpayers-stake-in-lloyds-now-below-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=80336","title":{"rendered":"News story: Taxpayer\u2019s stake in Lloyds now below 2%"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The latest sales, conducted via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/sale-of-publics-stake-in-lloyds-to-restart-shortly\">the trading plan<\/a>, mean the government has now recovered over \u00a320 billion of the \u00a320.3 billion taxpayers injected into Lloyds during the financial crisis, once share sales and dividends received are accounted for.<\/p>\n<p>The Economic Secretary to the Treasury, Simon Kirby, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I welcome this further progress in returning Lloyds to the private sector. We have now recovered over \u00a320 billion for the taxpayer and are very close to recovering all of the money taxpayers injected into the bank during the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A trading plan involves gradually selling shares in the market over time, in an orderly and measured way.<\/p>\n<p>The Lloyds trading plan initially ran from 17 December 2014 to 30 June 2016. The government announced on 7 October 2016 that further sales of Lloyds\u2019 shares would also be made through a trading plan.<\/p>\n<p>On 9 January 2017, the government announced it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-taxpayer-no-longer-largest-lloyds-bank-shareholder\">had passed a significant milestone in returning Lloyds to the private sector<\/a> when it confirmed it was no longer the bank\u2019s largest shareholder.<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds from the sales are used to reduce the national debt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has continued to sell shares in Lloyds Banking Group, reducing its remaining shareholding to less than 2%.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80336"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=80336"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80336\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=80336"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=80336"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=80336"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
