{"id":80521,"date":"2017-04-06T13:30:01","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T13:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5a5191d47f45c492c16ad9bda8e655bf"},"modified":"2017-04-06T13:30:01","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T13:30:01","slug":"news-story-bidding-opens-for-490-million-road-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=80521","title":{"rendered":"News story: Bidding opens for \u00a3490 million road funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Counties across England can today (6 April 2017) bid for a share of \u00a3490 million to improve their roads.<\/p>\n<p>The funding, which will be for schemes from 2018 to 2020, is designed to tackle congestion and provide upgrades to local roads to improve journey times.<\/p>\n<p>Bids are encouraged for a wide variety of schemes which will cut congestion, including by making use of technology and by opening up the data held by local councils.<\/p>\n<p>The pot of money is from the National Productivity Investment Fund, which is providing \u00a31.3 billion to enhance transport links to boost growth.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister Andrew Jones said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are investing record amounts on our roads \u2013 spending more than \u00a323 billion on providing better journeys for motorists.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are also committing a further \u00a31.3 billion up to 2020 to cut congestion and provide important upgrades to ensure our roads are fit for the future.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This money will allow councils to go even further to improve their roads and will be targeted at areas which need it most, providing a significant boost to the UK\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The first tranche of money to councils, \u00a3185 million, is already making a difference \u2013 in the north this includes improving roads in Blackpool, better access to the M65 near Blackburn, improving the A483 and A55 for the expansion of Chester Business Park.<\/p>\n<p>In the south-west, it\u2019s supporting infrastructure for growth and is likely to include a critical link in Bridgwater supporting construction of Hinkley Point C nuclear power station and housing development in south Bridgwater.<\/p>\n<p>Highways England is also spending \u00a3220 million on congestion relief schemes at identified traffic hotspots.
