It aims to develop robotics technologies that can take people out of dangerous work environments and go beyond human limits.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"demonstrator-programme\">Demonstrator programme<\/h2>\n<p>There is up to \u00a36 million available for projects that stimulate the development of robotics and artificial intelligence demonstrators.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first phase of the competition. Projects should focus on technical feasibility studies of individual technologies, systems or subsystems in extreme or challenging environments.<\/p>\n<p>Phase 2 will run in 2018. This will focus on experimental developments of fully-integrated systems that will be tested and demonstrated in realistic, extreme environments. To be considered to lead a project in phase 2 you must apply in phase 1.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/apply-for-innovation-funding.service.gov.uk\/competition\/25\/overview\">Find out more about the robotics and artificial intelligence demonstrator competition and apply.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"collaborative-research-and-development\">Collaborative research and development<\/h2>\n<p>You can apply for a share of \u00a310 million for collaborative research and development (R&amp;D) that results in new and novel systems.<\/p>\n<p>Projects should demonstrate a potential step-change in capabilities. Examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>innovative materials or systems, for example, actuators, sensors and telecommunications<\/li>\n<li>improved robotic capabilities, such as structural and radiation tolerance<\/li>\n<li>improved machine vision systems<\/li>\n<li>improved situational awareness, navigation, localisation and mapping<\/li>\n<li>more energy-efficient devices and systems<\/li>\n<li>miniaturised systems, for example, sensors, components and integrated sub-systems<\/li>\n<li>systems engineering including verification and validation tools and methodologies<\/li>\n<li>mission planning and risk management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The focus is primarily on off-shore energy, nuclear energy, space and deep mining, however, other extreme and challenging environments may also be considered. We are particularly interested in projects that cut across sectors.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/apply-for-innovation-funding.service.gov.uk\/competition\/27\/overview\">Find out more about the robotics and artificial intelligence collaborative R&amp;D competition and apply.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"part-of-the-industrial-strategy-challenge-fund\">Part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=leIuDm_en-s&amp;index=2&amp;list=PLrMOhOrmeR6mv0yQHVQDQ_BF8qaVD30uQ\">Robots for a Safer World \u2013 part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The robots and artificial intelligence challenge is part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.<\/p>\n<p>By developing new technologies and systems that can be deployed in extreme environments, this challenge will create a safer working world for people, as well as supporting advances in industry and public services to make them more productive.<\/p>\n<p>Government will invest \u00a393 million in this challenge area over the next 4 years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/industrial-strategy-challenge-fund-joint-research-and-innovation\">Find out more about the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"competition-information\">Competition information<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>both competitions are now open for applications<\/li>\n<li>in the demonstrator competition, projects should last up to 12 months and range in size up to total project costs of \u00a3500,000. The competition closes on 19 July 2017<\/li>\n<li>in the collaborative R&amp;D competition, projects should last up to 36 months and range in size up to total project costs of \u00a32 million.
