{"id":81714,"date":"2017-06-20T09:49:29","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T09:49:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=10af9494b21e206c961a2a5ce34e865e"},"modified":"2017-06-20T09:49:29","modified_gmt":"2017-06-20T09:49:29","slug":"press-release-dr-liam-fox-travels-to-us-on-first-international-trade-visit-since-the-general-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=81714","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Dr Liam Fox travels to US on first international trade visit since the General Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>There he will meet a Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill to explore ways to deepen trade and economic links between the UK and US, with the potential of signing a Free Trade Agreement soon after Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>Trade between the 2 countries is already worth over \u00a3150 billion a year, the US is the single biggest source of inward investment into the UK, and together there is around $1 trillion invested in each other\u2019s economies.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the 2-day visit, Dr Fox will meet Ambassador Robert Lighthizer, US Trade Representative, as well as the US Chamber of Commerce, trade policy organisations and business representatives.<\/p>\n<p>The International Trade Secretary will also attend the \u2018Select USA Investment Summit\u2019 at the National Convention Center, where he will deliver a speech setting out the principles of free trade.<\/p>\n<p>International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Our work as an international economic department has never been more critical and I am delighted to be making my first visit back as International Trade Secretary to the US, which is our largest single trading partner, accounting for a fifth of all exports.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We know we have a very big job to do, but we also know there are very big opportunities out there for the UK in terms of making a success out of global Britain and championing free trade which is fundamental to the prosperity of the world economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This visit will also help lay the groundwork for a potential future UK-US free trade agreement and the practical steps we can take now in order to enable companies in both countries to trade and do business with one another more easily.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The visit will underline the shared interest in forging a closer trade and economic relationship including making progress on policy coordination, regulatory issues and market access barriers.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Fox previously met Paul Ryan, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and a US Congressional delegation to discuss trade links, in London in April earlier this year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, today (Sunday 18 June) flies to Washington on his first international trip since the UK General Election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/81714"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=81714"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/81714\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=81714"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=81714"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=81714"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
