They were able to offer UK companies a wide range of advice, information and support aimed at increasing overseas defence and security sales.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation\">DIT DSO<\/abbr>\u2019s principal customers were UK <abbr title=\"Small Medium Enterprises\">SMEs<\/abbr>, who received informal advice or attended pre-booked appointments to meet <abbr title=\"Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation\">DIT DSO<\/abbr> experts to discuss more specific export opportunities.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hm-government-zone-stand\">HM government zone stand<\/h2>\n<p>The stand was manned throughout by the DSO Small Business Unit and the Military Export Support Team. They  were joined at the show over the 3 days by a number of <abbr title=\"Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation\">DIT DSO<\/abbr> colleagues from the regional directorates and high growth team.<\/p>\n<p>The stand also had a senior Royal Naval presence on all 3 days to engage with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>visiting overseas naval officials<\/li>\n<li>colleagues from the Ministry of Defence (<abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MoD<\/abbr>)<\/li>\n<li>UK companies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Access to the stand was also extended to Department for International Trade (<abbr title=\"Department for International Trade\">DIT<\/abbr>) colleagues from the regional international trade and <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MoD<\/abbr> business advisory teams.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"seawork\">Seawork<\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.seawork.com\/\">Seawork International<\/a> is the largest and fastest growing commercial marine and workboat event to be held in a working port. This annual conference and exhibition is in its 20th year and is an important fixture on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/defence-and-security-exporting-event-and-exhibition-support\/defence-and-security-exporting-event-and-exhibition-support#exhibition-event-calendar-2016-to-2017\"><abbr title=\"Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation\">DIT DSO<\/abbr> exhibition programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The show itself largely focuses upon civil and commercial maritime sales. This provided <abbr title=\"Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation\">DIT DSO<\/abbr> with an excellent opportunity to engage with new potential customers and to showcase the possibilities and benefits of diversifying into the overseas military market.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of the range of kit that military colleagues have helped to sell in the past provided an attractive draw to the stand.
